I met Ravi Kalra… He is a man who has cremated more than 6000 unclaimed bodies with all the rituals …the earth saviours foundation… so-called Gurukul… sheltering around 500 people…

I interviewed him… I visited his shelter home… he is a hero in true self… his story moved me so much… I came home with a very heavy heart… I was not prepared for what I experienced… it is true when I was told sometime earlier that one needs a rock solid heart for a social cause… the journey is not easy… not at all…

Ravi Kalra… to speak about him… he is a learned, acclaimed, self-made, world traveled trainer… who gave up almost everything in his life when one day he saw a street dog and a beggar eating from the same dustbin on the road… that moment everything changed in his life… it has been 11 years of the journey of his shelter home… rescuing abandoned and homeless people… providing shelter to mentally retarded ones to cancer patients to aids patients… to the normal old people left on the road by their families…

The most disturbing photos of him were nursing the people with rotten bodies… I could not look at the photos even of the incidents… where he has been tending to their wounds without an expression on his face…

The calming effect and the control over the purpose were evident… we all can read up more about him on the internet… the idea of me writing about him is not to tell his stories… the lasting effect I brought home is to realise that life is not all about wine, cheese and designer bags… thinking about the promotions, pay raise and the bank balance… the purpose of life is beyond this… at least for me, this was a hard-hitting truth…

Somewhere I need to get out of my comfort zone and do much beyond just living… it’s not what I do… but for sure I have to give a part of me… my time… my resources… my compassion for a bigger purpose in life…

When life gives you so much… it’s high time I give back too…

Gratitude!
